Hi,

You could try with a mail server like  http://james.apache.org/ JAMES .
Following what Mathieu said, I found 
http://jira.petalslink.com/browse/PETALSBCMAIL-1 an entry in our JIRA  about
the support of TLS/SSL.

So, hopefully, web mails will be eventually supported.
