So the SQL BC needs to be configured.
I finally made it through the corresponding Ant task although, for someone who is just testing, configuring it by manually inserting one line in petals-bc-sql-1.1.1.zip/META-INF/jbi.xml could be easier:

	...
    </bootstrap-class-path>
    <shared-library version="5.1.10">petals-sl-mysql</shared-library>
	...
