Are you sure to use the right $PETALS_HOME value and launch the right Petals ESB version ? In some case, when you have set the $PETALS_HOME environment variable, and run Petals from another directory, you can run into serious troubles.

For instance, let's say you've installed Petals twice :

* once in /home/dummyuser/petalshome
* once in /home/dummyuser/apps/petalshome

If you have set the $PETALS_HOME to /home/dummyuser/petalshome and have run it successfully (or not) once, installing many components, su, the lot...and then stopped it. If you then tries to launch Petals from /home/dummyuser/apps/petalshome without changing the $PETALS_HOME value, you do not start with a fresh install. All the stuff you've installed in /home/dummyuser/petalshome will be loaded by the /home/dummyuser/apps/petalshome instance.

Hope this will help you :-)
