Hi,

The folder is always *webapps*.
But I guess you installed Tomcat with *sudo apt-get install*. So, your
Tomcat directories are all over the file system.

Try with the Tomcat administration console.
First, update the tomcat-users.xml, as described 
http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-6.0-doc/manager-howto.html here .
As an example, here is my *admin* user.



Then, restart Tomcat and go to http://localhost:8080/deployer/
On the page, there is an upload form, to select the web application to
deploy (here, the Petals web console). 

Remember to use Apache Tomcat 6.x.
We plan to review and improve the tutorials before summer. 
Right now, we are focused on some important upgrades in the tooling to come
with our next maintenance release.
